Everyone has either uttered or at least heard the term, “working for the weekend.” While this rings true in so many forms, many of us fail to realize the sad reality in that statement. Without getting too depressing or realistic, when you think about only “living or working for the weekend” you are talking about only two days out of the seven possible days to have a happy existence. That’s roughly 72% of your time being spent looking forward to only 28% of the time you actually enjoy.
While many if not all of us are working in something less than our dream jobs, there are still ways to enjoy the time, all the time, we have on this planet. Let’s look at some simple ways to sprinkle some happiness into your life, shall we?
Surround yourself with happy people. In other words, surround yourself with people who genuinely make you feel better about yourself and your life. It’s true that misery loves company, so if at all possible, please avoid people who are miserable, negative, or anything else that makes you feel worse about yourself or your life.
Plan a mid-week day or night out. Why wait for the weekend to have some fun? Break up your routine and go see your favorite band, or eat at your favorite restaurant, or spend the day outdoors. Whatever you do, do it well! You don’t have to wait until 5PM on a Friday to enjoy yourself; you can do that anytime, anywhere and with anyone.
Exercise. I know you probably hear this alot, but exercise does make a huge difference in how you feel both physically and mentally. The best part is, you don’t have to spend a fortune finding a way to stay in shape. You can go for a run or a bike ride, find a neighborhood yoga group, watch aerobic videos online and workout in the privacy and peace in your living room. Even if you just opt to walk around your neighborhood after dinner, the point is that you do something. Get those endorphins up!
No matter how you choose to make yourself happy, the point is you choose happiness over just existence.
